Faith Is a Choice

Today’s devotional reading really stood out to me, so I wanted to share:

Read Mark 9:14-27

“‘If you can’?'" said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes” (Matt 9:23)

The children of God need to commit themselves to attempting to act like Jesus; to believe in Him without insisting that what they believe must be made visible. And yet it is not that easy to keep on believing when the promises of God just do not seem to come to pass in your own life. There is then only one thing left for you: choose to believe in God. Sheldon Vanauken declares that to choose is to believe. All that we can do is choose. It is not that we do not ever doubt, but we do ask for help to overcome our doubt after we have made the decision. We are, in effect, saying, “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.”

This year you can choose to believe in God once again. Perhaps there will be days when you may still doubt. On those days simply hold fast to the promises of God that He has mapped out for you in His Word and be obedient to the things that He highlights for you in His Word.

There are many things that we will never be able to understand with our human minds and yet every Christian can choose day by day to trust God. The prophet Isaiah reminds us that He is the one you can trust every day of your life (see Isa. 33:6), and of all the people who have trusted God through the ages, not one has been disappointed.

Lord Jesus, I want to put my trust in You today and choose to continually believe in You in spite of my negative circumstances. Please help me in areas where I still doubt. Amen.
