Self-Care
I am such a big fan of self-care. I think it’s important to make sure I don’t neglect myself so that I can be the best version of me. However, I’m also a Mother and my beautiful and incredible son has special needs and this causes me to worry about him often, even subconsciously. Depending on what is going on with his health, sometimes I can’t focus on anything except for what I can do to help get him better. Recently, he had a very serious concern resurface and it caused me to be extremely worried.
Eventually, the worry and stress caught up with me and I became depleted and overall exhausted. Once I realized that I was running on empty and needed to pour back into myself and self-care routine, I felt way more balanced. Self-care is great and for me, it’s a combination of taking care of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually so that I can be the healthiest and most positive version of myself.
Here are some examples of the things I do to ensure my self-care is up to par:
Physically:
I eat a lot of healthy foods, such as salads, fruits or high fiber meals so that my body gets that nutrients it needs. I also drink juices like carrot and celery juice, and at least 3 liters of water a day so that I stay hydrated and energized. Chlorophyll drops are so good for giving me an extra boost of energy. I mix these in with my water and it starts my day off right. (They also have a number of health benefits, such as helping with clearing up skin, being a natural deodorizer, detoxing your body, and weight loss.)
I like to go for walks to help clear my mind. Not only is this great for exercise, but getting fresh air and reconnecting with nature.
I almost never skip my skincare/nighttime routine. Taking the time to tend to my skin and body help me to feel and look my best.
I also prioritize my sleep and get massages as needed.
Mentally/Emotionally:
I avoid unnecessary conflict and try to surround myself with positive people who genuinely care for me. I also try to avoid watching or listening to negative/toxic shows or music.
To help myself relax and tune out the rush of the outside world, I love lighting my favorite Bath and Body Works candles and taking time for myself by watching a funny movie or reading my devotionals.
Spiritually:
Attending my church weekly is very important to me. I also like to read my devotionals and the Bible verses that accompany them. Doing this and praying to the Lord helps to give me a sense of peace and get closer to Jesus, especially when I’m feeling overwhelmed or worried.
Most of all, I try to take it easy and remind myself that I’m doing the best I can.
